About Us
The National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance was founded in September of 2002 as the Iraq Pledge of Resistance. It is a nationwide network of activists and organizations committed to ending the war in Iraq through nonviolent resistance, utilizing the practices and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Dorothy Day.
Our History: While the world viewed the largest anti-war marches since the Vietnam War erupt in 2003, shortly before the invasion of Iraq, a small group of concerned U.S. Citizens committed to a more peaceful world decided to engage in nonviolent resistance to aggressive and illegal warmaking. We knew that this would involve far greater sacrifice than simply marching, and we banded together. Since that time we have continued to resist and speak truth to power. To this day we are committed to ending the wars and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq, and trying to encourage our government to invest in human needs rather than death and destruction.
Groups we have aligned ourselves with: Declaration of Peace, Witness Against Torture, Veterans for Peace, Code Pink: Women for Peace, and Voices for Creative Nonviolence.
